Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of mortality. Understanding and prioritizing cardiovascular health is paramount. Cardiovascular health encompasses a range of factors that influence the health and function of the heart and blood vessels, from lifestyle choices to genetic predispositions. Conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, and stroke underscore the importance of prioritizing cardiovascular wellness. Additionally, cardiac risk assessment plays a crucial role in identifying individuals at risk of developing heart disease and guiding preventive strategies.

The Importance of Cardiovascular Health

The heart and circulatory system play a vital role in sustaining life by delivering oxygen-rich blood to tissues and organs throughout the body. However, factors such as poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, stress, and underlying health conditions can compromise cardiovascular health and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Promoting cardiovascular health involves adopting habits and behaviors that support the heart and blood vessels, including:

Cardiac Risk Assessment

Cardiac risk assessment is a systematic evaluation of an individual’s risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease. By identifying risk factors early, preventative measures can be implemented to reduce the likelihood of heart disease and stroke.

Key components of cardiac risk assessment include:

1. Medical History

Blood Tests such as lipid levels (total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides), blood sugar levels, fractionated lipid panel, LP(a), Apo B, Apo A, Omega Index, oxidized LDLs, and other markers of cardiovascular risk such as C-reactive protein (CRP) or homocysteine

2. Blood Pressure Measurement

3. Imaging Studies: In some cases, imaging studies such as echocardiography, stress testing, coronary calcium scoring, or cardiac CT or MRI may be recommended to assess heart structure and function, detect plaque buildup in the arteries, or evaluate for signs of coronary artery disease coronary artery disease.
